Our mission

We aim to develop an integrated, participative and sustainable management of the St. Lawrence river and the resources that are associated with our territory. Our interventions focus on community involvement, concensus and partnership. They are directed by the Ecological Rehabilitation and Action Plan, an important planification tool based on public consultation.

The Comité ZIP Ville-Marie is one of the 14 ZIP that cover most of the St. Lawrence river. All the ZIPs are part of Stratégies Saint-Laurent that help with coordination and communication. The CA members are coming from different sphere of society. .

Our mandate

We involve citizens and other actors of greater Montreal in different actions that aim to :
Create, integrate and distribute knowledge about the water ecosystem;
Raise the public awareness about important issues concerning the conservation and improvement of the St. Lawrence river;
Increase the public involvement into activities that aim to protect natural habitats, prevent pollution and environmental degradation and that improve access to the river;
Promote an integrated, participative and sustainable management of the river ecosystem, its resources and services;

Contribute to decrease pollution sources that affect the St. Lawrence river;
Inform the public about the river and its resources;
IProtect and improved the ecosystems of the St. Lawrence river and its tributaries.

Our action plan

Our 2008-2009 action plan contains four general orientations :

  1. Consolidate the governance and financing of the organisation;
  2. Involve the "water actors" into an integrated planification for the sustainable management of water in greater Montreal;
  3. Raise the public awareness about important issues concerning the conservation and sustainable development of the St. Lawrence river;
  4. Improve access to the river through renewed recreative uses of the river.

Vision statement

A community whose decision-makers share with all residents an awareness of the fragility of aquatic ecosystems and incorporate a concern for biodiversity preservation into planning and other activities.

Our mission

ZIP Ville-Marie seeks to mobilize citizens and stakeholders of the Montreal region and to encourage their participation in activities that :

Protect, conserve and enhance the ecosystems of the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries ;

Publicize and share environmental information and knowledge ;


Restore access and use of the St. Lawrence and its tributaries within the urbanized area
